Wait … rhubarb is a vegetable?! 🤯

Have you tried our delicious rhubarb yet? We know the first thing that comes to mind for most people is strawberry rhubarb pie—but there are so many other ways to enjoy this fantastic vegetable (yes, it’s a veggie, not a fruit! 🤯).

Here are a few tasty ways to get creative with rhubarb:

  • Rhubarb crisp

  • Compote for topping ice cream, yogurt, and more

  • SautĂ©ed with greens for a delicious balance of tart and earthy flavors

Growing seasonally means paying close attention to weather and harvest patterns over time so we can learn to be more resilient and adapt to any potential changes. For example, last year’s rhubarb harvest began in late April, with strawberries arriving by May 14th. That overlap let us offer both crops through mid-June! This season we’ve had cooler temps and later harvest dates across the board. Despite the wait, this week we have a small harvest of strawberries to go with the rhubarb, and we hope to have more strawberries next week!

When it comes to the environment, it helps to stay flexible. 🌍 Thank you for shopping locally!

Produce

This week’s local, fresh harvest includes:

  • Arugula (Wasabi—peppery hot! And excellent for your favorite sashimi dishes!)

  • Asparagus

  • Beets—red with tops!! 

  • Cherry Tomatoes

  • Cucumbers—Early days, limited harvest, get them while you can!

  • Herbs— fresh celery, chives, cilantro, dill, mint, rosemary, sage, thyme, and plenty of dried options available!

  • Horseradish

  • Kale (Curly, Blue Dazzling, and Red Russian)

  • Kohlrabi—first of the season!

  • Lettuce (mixed leafy and head)

  • Mixed Greens

  • Mushrooms—Dried options available; not enough rain for the shiitake yet. But, we’ll keep you posted when they’re back!

  • Mustard Greens

  • Radish (Cherry Belle, and a variety of others, with tops)

  • Rhubarb

  • Spinach

  • Strawberries—very small harvest, we hope to have more next week! 🍓

  • Swiss Chard

  • Watercress

  • Zucchini—Early days, limited harvest, get them while you can!

As always, our produce is GMO-free and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides — and we make sure it stays that way, even for crops that are tricky to grow naturally!

Dairy & Eggs

This week’s options include:

  • Grass-fed, organic, non-homogenized, low heat pasteurized milk (A1/A2 this week), butter, buttermilk, cheese (cottage cheese and GGC sharp cheddar), French dip, kefir (plain or vanilla), yogurt (plain or vanilla), and whipping cream. 

  • Chicken and Duck eggs this week! Our eggs are hand harvested and cleaned. Our chickens are raised on not simply organic but also a soy free grain mix along with their free range diet. There really is nothing like the consistency and flavor of these delectable treats from heritage breeds . . . we bring out the connoisseurs!

  • Beef Grill Options: Ground Beef—approx. 85% lean, Ground Chuck—approx. 89% lean, and Ground Round—approx. 90% lean. Beef Patties—approx. 85% lean (3 or 4 pk)!
